Nellies ToyBox was inspired by my daughter, Nellie, and a simple belief: the best toys don’t need to do all the playing for our children.

As a parent, I became increasingly drawn to toys that encourage little ones to explore, imagine, create and learn at their own pace. Toys that can become something completely different tomorrow from what they were today — and that don’t need flashing lights, constant sounds or screens to hold a child’s attention.

I wanted Nellie to have a toy box filled with things designed to last. Toys she could discover independently, grow with and return to again and again.

And that’s where Nellies ToyBox began.

Toys with a little more purpose

We carefully choose toys that encourage open-ended play, creativity, curiosity and learning.

Rather than toys that constantly demand attention with lights, sounds and electronics, we love toys that give children the space to decide what happens next.

A wooden block can become a house, a tower, a telephone or something entirely new. A stacking toy can begin as a simple challenge and later become part of a whole imaginary world.

There isn't always a right way to play — and we think that's rather wonderful.

We're also passionate about choosing toys with longevity in mind.

Wherever possible, we'll prioritise thoughtfully made, durable and more sustainable products that can withstand real family life and, hopefully, be enjoyed by more than one little pair of hands.

We want to move away from the idea of toys as short-lived entertainment and towards something simpler: buying fewer, better things that children genuinely love to play with.

Every toy we add to Nellies ToyBox is chosen with the same question in mind:

Would I be happy to put this in Nellie's toy box?
